The species are: Phormium cookianum and Phormium tenax. It is commonly known as New Zealand Linen or Formio. The leaves are leathery, broad ribbon-shaped and tufted. It is a very resistant plant. It supports low temperatures and frost, if they are not frequent. The best situation is in full sun. It can also live in partial shade. In cold areas it is better to place it sheltered by a wall. If the area is warm, it looks great as an isolated element in the middle of the meadow.
