The harvest :
If you have a garden, with gloves and sharpening pruning shears, take the roses in hot dry weather, when the dew drops have evaporated, as the humidity slows down the drying process and prevents the roses from setting.
Drying the flowers in bouquets:
Eliminate flowers that can fold when drying. Form bouquets (no more than 5 flowers each, since with more flowers the bouquet would be very heavy and the drying time would be too long).
Tie the stems 3 cm around the end with an elastic band, wrap the bouquets in kraft paper to protect them from dust and light, and hang them with a rope or hook. It will take quite a few days for the bouquets to dry.
Drying the petals
This method is the fastest and gives very good results:
Make jam with the Roses:
A delicious jam with pancakes or mixed with yogurts or fresh cheese.
Ingredients:
Remove the white base from the petals with the help of scissors, since it is a little bitter.
Pour the petals in a saucepan with the water and the juice of 1 lemon and cook for 10 minutes over low heat.
Drain it, recover the juice and make a syrup (104 ° C) with sugar.
Add the petals and the juice of the other 2 lemons and bring to a boil.
The next day, bring it back to a boil, and let it simmer until the petals turn clear.
Rose perfume: aromatic cushion
In a kraft paper bag, place 30 g of dried rose petals, 15 g of powdered mint leaves, 15 g of cloves and 3 drops of rose water. Mix everything well so that the perfumes are mixed. Let it rest for 2 weeks in a cool place, stirring it from time to time.
For the aromatic cushion, you need two 15 cm squares of fabric sewn on each side, leaving an opening and fill them with the mixture before closing the opening with a stitch.
